The Master course “International Migration and Intercultural Relations (IMIB)” at the University of Osnabrück, Germany is a two-year Master Program run by the Institute for Migration and Intercultural Studies (IMIS). Most courses are conducted in German, thus German language skills (C1) are a requirement. In its perspective on migration and its social consequences, the program combines disciplinary perspectives from sociology, history, geography, political science, law, educational science, psychology, linguistics, and religious studies. Students are trained in theoretical approaches to and comparative analyses of migration-related phenomena. They study and practice methodological tools to conduct their own empirical research. The Master's program is characterized by three special features:

Interdisciplinarity and personal atmosphere: A basis for understanding and proficiency

Global network: You choose where you study

EuMIGs option: Two degrees with one master

Admission requirements:

  • A qualified bachelor's degree or comparable degree in one of the disciplines involved in the program or related disciplines
  • English language skills (B2) as well as German language skills (C1) (for international students). More Information on the accepted language certificates can be found here. Applicants who have a B2 certificate in German but do not yet have a C1 certificate can prove their language skills to the admissions committee in 2023 due to a transitional arrangement. Please contact fachstudienberatung-imib@uni-osnabrueck.de  if this applies to you.
  • Your application is subject to a selection process in which, in addition to the bachelor's degree, other criteria are considered (e.g. personal motivation, relevant practical experience, non-academic achievements, voluntary commitments). This allows  taking into account other individual qualities of the applicants in addition to their academic performance.

Further information on the application process and admission requirements can be found here.
